Dad Buys Car for His Daughter, Finds Note in Glove-Box Inside the Vehicle

Dad Buys Car for His Daughter, Finds Note in Glove-Box Inside the Vehicle. Kevin Duke from Kentucky was excited to get his daughter her first ever car.

He wanted to make sure he finds the best vehicle and he eventually bought a nice used car. But little did he know it wasn’t just “a car.” It hid a secret that broke his heart. Since his daughter was a few weeks away from getting her driver’s license, Kevin wanted to test the car for himself, so he went for a test drive and thoroughly inspected it inside and out.

He also checked the glove box several times, but only when he touched the small rubber mat did he discover that there was a letter inside. He turned to the new owner and said “Important information inside.”

Nothing could have prepared this father for the words written on that paper.

Speaking about the unusual experience, Kevin took to Facebook to share it with friends.

“Well, yesterday I was messing around and opened this storage compartment on top of the ram (which I’ve opened dozens of times). This time I notice a rubber mat on the bottom and for whatever reason I pull it out. To my surprise, I find this envelope with this letter in it. I’m not going to lie, I shed a few tears.”

He even took a picture of the letter. Needless to say, it moved him to tears, and none of those who read it were spared from crying themselves.

Here’s what he said:

“To the person who was taking this car, I just wanted to let you know what a special vehicle you bought.” This car belonged to my mother. She passed away on February 25, 2015 in a house fire along with my six-year-old daughter and aunt. The last time my mom drove this car was the day she left us. She and my daughter went out shopping and got a haircut.”

That car meant the world to the person who wrote the letter, but she had no choice but to sell it.

“This car holds many special memories for me.” My house and everything in it is gone, this car is all I have left to touch. There was a mix-up with the paperwork and this resulted in the insurance not paying for the car. It’s so sad that I lost my family, my home, and now I’m losing this last bond I have with my mother and child through no fault of my own.”

That vehicle was a testament to the fun times and amazing memories that the previous owner and her family experienced during their full travels. She witnessed their joys and times they could never get back.

“I’m not mad at you. I hope this car is the best car you’ve ever owned. I hope it lasts another 100 years. I hope the back seat is full of kids and toys and random stuff. My family filled this car with lots of love and other sticky stuff. We went on road trips, playing 80’s and country music and rolled down the windows. I changed more diapers in the back seat than I can count. Maybe there’s a crayon stick or a crayon that belonged to my kid hidden somewhere. Maybe the whole piece of chicken. EAT!”

That car wasn’t the best, but the reason it was so special to the woman who wrote the letter sure was.

“I don’t know if you’ll see it, but there might be a dirty spot on the ram.” My daughter and I would pretend we were going on adventures while sitting in the driveway and she would always put her feet up. The dent in the driver’s side rear fender and the dent in the passenger door is where my daughter learned to ride … and crashed … her bike a few months before she passed away.”

“I know it’s just a car to you, but it’s so much more to me.” Life happened in this car. There was love, joy and adventure in this car. So now that it’s yours, remember that it’s not just a car. it is a memory. This car with all its features is the last part of my family. Be good with it. Play a country song. Big Green Tractor was my daughter’s favorite song ever, or any Lynyrd Skynyrd Freebird. That song meant so much to us that I played it at their funerals.”

Kevin’s daughter will always have “someone” by her side when she drives that car.

“You ride with the angels.” my angels. Talk to them if you want, I’m sure they’d love to see and hear about all the new adventures you have in this car. Her name is Silvia, by the way. The first day mom got this car that we all drove around and Dr. Hook Silvia’s mom came on the radio, the name just stuck when my daughter said that’s what we should call the car. So please don’t change his name.”

The touching letter ended with a plea.

“If you ever want to sell Sylvia, try to find me. I’ve just paid for 3 funerals, I can’t afford to buy it now, but hopefully I’ll be in a better financial situation if you later decide it’s not right for you anymore. Be blessed, be happy, live and love as we do. I wish you and Silvia all the best!”

This story touched many hearts and talked about the personal pain that each of us goes through in life.

We sincerely hope that this woman who has been through so much finds her peace
