People Are Losing Their Minds Over Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton’s Nye Duet, and You Are About to Too. Do yourself a favor and take the five minutes and 59 seconds out of your day to watch this.
Miley Cyrus and her godmother Dolly Parton gave fans the performance of a lifetime during NBC’s special “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party” on Saturday, December 31.
In the minutes before midnight, the evening’s co-hosts closed out 2022 with a touching duet of their two emotional ballads. Cyrus and Parton kicked off the new year with a medley of Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” followed by Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.”
The co-hosts covered Cyrus’ hit together in 2013. However, when Parton was about to end her run, instead of breaking into the final chorus, she began singing the chorus of “I Will Always Love You “. The 76-year-old took it back to the top of the song and the pair finished the rest of the 1974 hit in a stunning duet.
On social media, fans celebrated Cyrus and Parton’s heartfelt duet, with one fan tweeting: “Definitely they already saved 2023 by singing a mashup of ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘I’ll Always Love You.’ .
“Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton performing ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ are so iconic,” another fan tweeted.
One Twitter user added: “Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus singing ‘I’ll always love you’ is exactly where I wanted to go in 2023.”
After their performance and before the countdown to midnight, the pair addressed the crowd and Parton shared some touching words about the evening and her godfather.
“I’m telling you, it’s the thrill of my life to host a show with Miley,” Parton said. “We know how much I’ve loved her since she was a little old lady.” It’s a very old thing now and I still love it. I will always love you.”
The 30-year-old echoed Parton’s sentiments, adding: “That’s how I feel about you, Aunt Dolly. Standing on this stage and bringing in 2023 with my godmother and all of you here in Miami has been a privilege and a pleasure and we’ve just loved the time we’ve had together and you’ve all brought us closer than we . I’ve ever been before, so we’re grateful for that.”

Last year, Cyrus and Pete Davidson co-hosted her inaugural New Year’s Eve special on NBC, which featured guests such as Jack Harlow and Saveetie. Much of last year’s special was hampered by the rise in Covid-19 cases, as well as the spread of the omicron variant, which canceled initial plans for the evening. The show still went on, but not without a wardrobe malfunction for Cyrus while performing her song “Party in the U.S.A.”
This year, Cyrus hosted a concert with her godmother. The two were joined for the evening by guests including Sia, David Byrne, Fletcher, as well as performances from Saturday Night Live cast members Chloe Fineman, Sarah Sherman and comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy.
Paris Hilton also made a surprise appearance alongside Cyrus and Sia to perform her 2006 hit “Stars Are Blind,” which the singer recently re-recorded and released on Friday, Dec. 30. The 41-year-old shared a clip from the performance on Instagram with the caption, “Told you I had another surprise!”
“I had so much fun singing #StarsAreBlind at the @MileiCirus New Year’s special with Miley & @SiaMusic!” she added. “The perfect way to ring in 2023 and celebrate my new version of this iconic song.” I can’t wait to show you all the other exciting things I’m working on. This is just the beginning! Happy New Year!”
