Actor Gary Sinise Builds Custom Home For Marine Who Lost His Legs At War. While serving as a Marine in Afghanistan, Jonathon Blank paid a hefty price. He lost both of his legs in an expIosion that also left in-juries to his head and arms.
But someone had and still has a back. And that person is actor Gary Sinise. Sinise is known for his role as Lt. A day in the movie “Forrest Gump”.
In the film, Lt. Dunn loses both legs during a military action. Since then, Sinise has established the Gary Sinise Foundation, which aims to help veterans affected by military service. And for Jonathan, the foundation and Sinise himself wanted to build him a custom home, one that he could easily maneuver with his disability. Jonathon was delighted with the gift from the foundation.
Jonathon says: “It’s such an amazing gift. Even some of those tough guys, when they found out about it, got really excited about it.”
Jonathon joined the Marines in 2006 and lost his legs four years later. He still suffers from chronic pain. He also has migraine headaches and insomnia. Sinise and his foundation have been responsible for building nearly 60 homes for w0unded veterans since the foundation’s inception. Built houses are energy efficient, with remote control of lights and shades. They also have voice-activated technology. And in Jonathon’s new house, there is an elevator that can take him from floor to floor. Jonathon’s girlfriend, Britney, was excited that he got a new house.
Britney says: “He’s dragging himself around, dragging all his stuff up and down the stairs all the time. Nothing is slowing him down, but just imagining a locker that he can pull up and reach instead of having to jump in there — that’s going to make such a big difference for him.”
Sinise made sure that his role as Lt. Dan had more impact than the character himself in the film. That’s something not many other actors can claim.
